Fraudsters pull off huge US personal info theft

A fraud ring has infiltrated one of the US's largest collectors of consumer information and obtained credit reports, social security numbers and other information of up to 100,000 people in a massive case of identity theft.

ChoicePoint said it had begun sending letters to about 35,000 California residents to tell them their personal information may have been compromised. The company urged them to check their credit reports for suspicious activity.
