Bertelsmann eyes Thomson Learning bid

Bertelsmann, the media group, has teamed up with private equity partners to consider a bid for Thomson Learning, a textbook publisher, which Thomson Corporation of Canada is touting for an estimated $5bn.

Insiders say Thomson Learning is one of the first targets that Bertelsmann has identified for a novel joint investment designed to secure Europe’s biggest media group a foothold in new sectors and to deepen its footprint in the US and Asia.
