Washington pledges emissions role

The US would take a lead role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions in a successor to the Kyoto protocol, the head of the US delegation to climate change talks said on Tuesday.

“The US should take on a greater role [in cutting emissions] that is commensurate with our economic standing,” said Paula Dobriansky, undersecretary of state for democracy and global affairs.
