Names as brands: Split personalities lead to divorce

Everywhere you look, designers and their names are being separated.

In 2004, Jil Sander left her company, which was subsequently sold to the London-based private equity firm Change Capital Partners last February. This March, Helmut Lang, which the designer had left in 2004 after selling his trademark to Prada, was sold to Link-Theory holdings, which wants to reposition it as a “contemporary” (middle market) line.
