Laura Ashley profits halve ascosts of extra promotions bite

Profits at Laura Ashley slumped by a half last year as the costs of extra sales promotions ate into revenues.

The company, famous for its floral fabrics and its quintessentially English furnishings, said pre-tax profits for the year to January 31 had fallen 48.5 per cent to £10.2m, in spite of a 10 per cent rise in revenues.
