Iran's top security official warned yesterday that reporting Iran to the UN Security Council would prompt Tehran to resume efforts to enrich uranium on an industrial scale, further raising the stakes in the crisis over its nuclear programme.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, which handles the nuclear issue, said Tehran would not withdraw from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty in protest at a UN report.
