US airlines sue over slot auctions

US airlines have sued their federal regulator over its plan to auction take-off and landing slots at New York's regional airports, a practice the industry says is illegal.

The suit escalates carriers' battle to block the Federal Aviation Administration's auctions, a central component in the agency's strategy for reducing congestion and air-traffic delays at the biggest US city.
