Kingfisher tries to paper over cracks in demand

Surrey and Shanghai may not seem to have much in common. But to Ian Cheshire, chief executive of Kingfisher since January last year, both are ready for the revamped version of B&Q's stores that he hopes will revive the DIY group's fortunes.

The retailer first developed its format of room-style display areas complete with wallpaper, paint, lighting and matching fabrics in its Castorama stores in France. Now it is being rolled out in the UK and China.
