NHS trusts lose patients' records

Gordon Brown was facing further political embarrassment over the government's handling of personal data after the Department of Health confirmed that nine National Health Service trusts had admitted losing patient records.

The loss, thought to involve personal information on hundreds of thousands of people, emerged as part of a government-wide review following security breaches in other departments.
