Miliband to give up London mansion

David Miliband is set to give up One Carlton Gardens, the foreign secretary’s sumptuous official residence in London, permanently, in the name of Whitehall efficiency.

The plans to end the lease on the mansion, designed by John Nash and which once provided shelter for the exiled emperor Napoleon III, would relinquish one of the biggest perks for foreign secretaries.
