Legislation paves way for Alitalia break-up

Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right government on Thursday approved legislation to change Italy’s bankruptcy proceedings in order to pave the way for the break-up of Alitalia and its partial rescue by a group of private Italian investors.

Government officials, who asked not to be named, said the cabinet approved a decree and a draft law that changes the existing Marzano law used for major bankruptcies.
