Australia extends short-selling ban

Australia’s corporate regulator has extended its ban on covered short selling of financial stocks until the end of January, underlining concerns about the continued vulnerability of the country’s banking sector during the global credit crisis.

Last month, Australia followed regulators elsewhere in temporarily banning covered shorting, when sellers have borrowed the shares they are selling.
