Conservatives angry over Supreme Court choice

Conservative activists responded angrily to the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, complaining that President George W. Bush had squandered an opportunity to reshape the court with someone who shared their views.

No Senate Republicans, who will be called on to back her through the confirmation process, spoke out immediately against her nomination, and Democrats said they were pleased Mr Bush had not chosen a known conservative jurist for the lifetime appointment.
