Resource rich FTSE hits 4-year high

Friends Provident and O2 were put through the rumour mill on Friday as booming resource stocks pushed the FTSE 100 to a fresh four-year high.

Life assurer Friends Provident was a leading gainer after Axa upped its stake by a further 1 per cent to 15 per cent, heightening speculation the French insurer was plotting a takeover.
