Seoul acts to remove financial barriers

South Korea’s long-stated desire to create a regional financial hub will be given fresh impetus this week with the introduction of laws that some analysts have likened to the “big bang” reforms enacted in the City of London in the 1980s.

The Capital Market Consolidation Act was drafted in Seoul with the aim of revolutionising the country’s financial sector by removing barriers that prevented consolidation in the non-banking financial sector
