Spread betting on sport remains as football-dominated as the sports pages, so a summer without a major tournament might be expected to send a wave of apprehension through the industry.
This year, though, the gap is filled by two big events in other sports that take place only every four years – a British and Irish Lions rugby tour – this time to South Africa – and a home Ashes test cricket series against Australia. Cricket has been one of the industry’s successes over recent years.
