Antiques rise as investors seek shelter

Prices for traditional arts and antiques are continuing to outstrip those for contemporary work as investors look to shelter savings by buying safer assets.

There is evidence of rising prices in more than two-thirds of the arts and antiques market, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, with particular growth in values at the top end of the market. This includes work based around precious metals and jewels.
