Sports Direct and JJB Sports face more scrutiny from the Office of Fair Trading after the competition watchdog decided to broaden its inquiry about links between the companies.

The OFT said it would examine the purchase of stores by Sports Direct, controlled by entrepreneur Mike Ashley, from JJB Sports, its troubled retail peer.
