Most European newspaper and magazine owners did not need Jupiter Research's survey to tell them that shifting consumer habits are creating serious challenges for traditional media.

The fact that online consumption has overtaken print helps to explain the tough advertising climate and declining circulations seen by publishers of paid-for newspapers and consumer magazines.
