Outlook bleak for airline industry

Global airline industry losses are expected to widen to $11bn in 2009 and to continue in 2010 as fuel prices rise and business travel remains extremely weak, according to the International Air Transport Association.

In June, Iata estimated that airlines would lose $9bn in 2009, double its March forecast, but the industry outlook has worsened since then, and the trade group said that it could not see a recovery to net profits until 2011, or revenues until 2012.
