Blyk, the first UK mobile phone operator to offer customers free phone calls in return for accepting advertising on their handsets, plans to expand into continental Europe next year.

The advertising will provide most of Blyk's funding. It launched in the UK yesterday, offering customers 43 minutes of free calls and 217 free text messages per month, in return for receiving up to six picture messages per day containing advertising.
