Outlook uncertain for house prices

The housing market stood firm over the summer as money and credit markets wobbled, a range of data showed on Thursday, with mortgage lending holding up and price inflation returning to more normal levels.

Economists said continued low interest rates faced by borrowers and a rush to sell properties before sellers were forced to complete a costly home information pack helped underpin the market. But many warned of a more difficult autumn.
