Case study: Waitrose: The workers decide what they need

In the town of Fort Beaufort in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, a group of farm workers gathers in a small building on a citrus-growing co-operative one morning during the off-season.

They are here to learn to read and write. The literacy programme is funded by the Waitrose Foundation, an innovative ethical supply chain partnership between Waitrose and South African fruit farmers.
