Desmond Tutu, the Nobel peace prizewinner who helped end Apartheid in South Africa, was in New York on Tuesday, ahead of a fundraiser for the Ubuntu Education Fund, a nonprofit that operates literacy, technology and healthcare programmes in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province. He spoke to the FT about his involvement with Ubuntu and his broader thoughts on philanthropy and development assistance to Africa.
