Barclays’ reliance on investment banking ‘to rise’

Barclays will become more dependent on earnings from its investment banking operations following the $13.5bn sale of Barclays Global Investors, analysts warned on Friday.

The disposal will bolster Barclays’ core tier one capital ratio – a measure of financial strength – by 1.5 percentage points to 8 per cent, putting it in line with its peers.
