President Mwai Kibaki has urged Kenya’s parliament to pass into law a power-sharing deal that was struck with the opposition to end the country’s worst period of turmoil since independence.

In a conciliatory speech at the opening of parliament on Thursday , Mr Kibaki told members to rise above partisan considerations in order to restore peace and stability to Kenya.
