Why John Galt is not worth knowing

Prepare to be asked “Who is John Galt?” this year. It is the opening line of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, whose 50th anniversary falls in 2007.

The lucky ones will not know the answer: to find it they would have had to haul themselves a long way through the novel’s 1,100 pages. It is a joyless experience.
