Gunmen wearing suicide vests stormed two mosques packed with worshippers from a sect in the Pakistani city of Lahore on Friday, killing at least 90 people, battling police and seizing hostages.

The near-simultaneous raids by suspected Islamist extremists represented the worst attack in a Pakistani city this year and underscored the growing reach of militants in Punjab, the country’s most populous province, which borders India.
