Samsung leads game as rivals find their chips are down

Memory chipmakers worldwide have cut output and reduced investment as they go through what some have described as the industry's worst downturn yet.

Hynix Semiconductor, the world's second largest memory chipmaker, and its Taiwanese rival Powerchip Semiconductor and Japan's Elpida Memory and Toshiba have all scaled back production as oversupply and weak demand pushed prices lower.
