Baltic risk to Swedish banks

Swedish banks face increasing risks from their Baltic operations that could damage their profitability and liquidity, the International Monetary Fund has warned in its latest executive board report on the country.

“Spillovers from credit to liquidity risks would be problematic given the substantial reliance by banks on capital market funding and since a drying-up of this funding could also cause a credit crunch in Sweden itself,” the report says.
