Opel’s labour leader on Tuesday warned of possible plant closures in the UK and Italy if Fiat’s boss Sergio Marchionne succeeds in securing a merger with General Motors’ European operations and Chrysler.

Union leaders in the UK and Italy are also pressing the Fiat chief on his plans to close production sites if he manages to create a European carmaking giant.
