The government on Thursday admitted it had taken part in rendition when UK troops handed two terrorist suspects to the US before they were removed from Iraq.

The disclosure, which follows five years of denials of UK involvement in rendition, comes amid growing scrutiny of the legality of Britain’s covert role supporting the US “war on terror”.
