Pfizer to lay off global research staff

Pfizer said on Tuesday that it would sack as many as 800 researchers as the world’s biggest pharmaceutical company restructures its R&D operations to concentrate on six disease areas, including diabetes and cancer.

By the end of the year, Pfizer will have laid off 5-8 per cent of its global research staff. The company has about 10,000 researchers.
