Bernanke in line to replace Greenspan

George W. Bush on Monday nominated Ben Bernanke, a leading monetary policy expert and Wall Street's favoured candidate, to replace Alan Greenspan as chairman of the Federal Reserve.

The choice of Mr Bernanke, chairman of the White House council of economic advisers, to lead the most important central bank is likely to reassure international investors and be greeted warmly inside the Fed.
