British unions react with delight to GM news

British unions reacted with delight to the “fantastic” General Motors’ volte face, expressing confidence the decision would protect more of the 5,500 Vauxhall jobs in the UK than the proposed Magna deal.

Lord Mandelson, the British business secretary, will discuss the new situation at a meeting with Neelie Kroes, the European competition commissioner, in Brussels.
