Tokyo downgrades economic prospects

Tokyo downgraded its view on the Japanese economy for the first time in 17 months on Tuesday, after unexpectedly weak data that suggested the recovery had stalled in the three months to September.

In its monthly economic report, the cabinet office reiterated its view that “the economy continues to recover”, but added “some weak movements have been seen recently”, referring to sharp slowdowns in export demand and industrial production.
