WHO lifts ban on two generic antiretroviral treatments

The World Health Organisation on Tuesday lifted restrictions on the use of two antiretroviral drugs, signalling an important boost to affordable Aids treatment on the eve of World Aids Day.

The WHO said that it had reinstated on its list of prequalified drugs lamivudine and ziodovudine, produced by the Indian company Cipla, after previously advising patients to switch to alternative treatments last May.
