Clothing main cost at state school

Families spend more than £10bn ($19.6bn) a year on sending their children to state schools, research from Asda, the retailer, shows.

The biggest single burden is clothing, which costs an average of £473 a year per child – a large chunk of the £1,077 needed to put a child through the school year.
