India expels Commonwealth Games CEO

India on Thursday asked the chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation to leave the country in an angry response to what it has interpreted as humiliating international criticism of preparations to host the Delhi 2010 games.

Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of the organising committee of the prestige event, called for the removal of Mike Hooper, the CGF’s chief executive, saying he has been of “no use” over the past two years. He said Mr Hooper, a New Zealand national, should be repatriated immediately and urged his London-based organisation to replace him.
