Madoff promises to open books for SEC by new year

Bernard Madoff, the broker accused of perpetrating a $50bn fraud, is to provide regulators with “a verified written accounting” of his firm’s records by New Year’s Eve, according to a court document.

As the list of victims of the alleged fraud continued to mount, Mr Madoff also agreed to an extension of the court orders that have frozen his assets and put his firm, Bernard L. Investment Securities, into receivership.
