Volcker tasked to recoup $300bn tax

President Obama has asked Paul Volcker, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, to reform the complex US tax system by reducing benefits to companies, tackling tax havens and clawing back unpaid taxes.

With Congress bridling against its budget spending plans and fretting about the deficit, the White House said on Wednesday Mr Volcker would lead a team to squeeze out more revenue from taxes.
