Bush plans to increase size of army

President George W. Bush plans to increase the size of the army and marine corps to reduce the stress on the US military.

Mr Bush on Tuesday told the Washington Post he had asked Robert Gates, the new US defence secretary, to develop a plan to expand the size of the military. The move comes just days after the departure of Donald Rumsfeld, who had resisted calls from Congress to increase the size of the US military.
