EU boosts biofuels despite concerns

Europe is set to press ahead with measures to boost biofuels in spite of battles in Brussels about whether they cause more environmental harm than good.

Andris Piebalgs, the energy commissioner, reiterated yesterday that he would not scrap a target to ensure that 10 per cent of transport fuel is derived from plants by 2020, despite reservations among his colleagues.
