Bush picks fundraisers as UK and Italy ambassadors

President George W. Bush yesterday nominated two large political fundraisers to serve as his top diplomats in the UK and Italy, Washington's closest European allies and loyal supporters of the war in Iraq.

Robert Tuttle, a California car dealer, was named ambassador to the UK, while Ronald Spogli, a California investment banker, was tapped for the post in Rome.
