Dispute threatens Croatia’s EU talks

Croatia’s chances of completing its European Union entry talks by the end of 2009 are threatened by a border dispute with Slovenia that is inflaming passions in both countries, the EU’s enlargement commissioner said on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Olli Rehn also expressed hope that a settlement of the Cyprus problem would avert a crisis in Turkey’s entry talks, and said the EU was “mentally prepared” for a membership application from Iceland.
