Companies previously using recreational amounts of corporate bonds are becoming fully fledged addicts. Global non-financial companies have raised $1,300bn in bonds during 2009, one-fifth more than total corporate loans, according to data provider Dealogic. With bonds providing more than fair competition for conventional lending, some banks are looking ever more like debt brokers rather than debt providers.
