Tory plan to ‘share pain’ of fuel rises

Fuel duty would rise and fall in step with global oil prices under a radical proposal put forward by the Conservatives.

But the Treasury dismissed the idea, proposed by George Osborne, shadow chancellor, as a “dishonest” stunt that would leave a hole in the public finances.
