Ambitious emirate is looking beyond quarrying

While the United Arab Emirates has to thank oil for its wealth, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah traditionally turned to mining its stone quarries in the Hajar mountain range.

The emirate now wants to transform itself into an economic powerhouse along the lines of Dubai, which has developed from a mercantile society into a tourist and investment hub.
