A financial and economic storm of the size of that striking Mexico in recent months would in the past have precipitated almost instant crisis.

If international troubles deepen further, so will Mexico’s. But so far, despite collapsing oil prices, financial market turmoil and a violent flight to quality in international asset markets, disaster has been averted.
