Wetherspoon’s cut-price tactic goes down well

JD Wetherspoon revealed the extent of the damage caused by the smoking ban on its bottom line on Friday – reporting a fall in full-year profits and lowering its final dividend.

The company, which has nearly 700 pubs in Britain, made a pre-tax profit of £54m in the year to the end of July, down nearly 13 per cent from £62m last year, but roughly in line with consensus forecasts.
